"je"(with voyelle, rule of apostrophe) eg> je aime(za ayaim) becomes j'aime(zyam) as the word following the "je" starts with voyelle. Literally j'aime means I like. je achete(za aaset) becomes j'achete(zaset) Literally means I buy.
In french the rule of apostrophe is generally implemented with the use of "je", the subject pronoun and "le" and "la" the definite article, when the word starting with vowel is encapsulated after them. It really does make sense while speaking too.
"je"(with consonant no change)
eg> je joue(za ju)
I play
je parle(za pagl)
I speak
le or la (with consonant no change)
eg> le médicin(la meedican)=doctor(masculin)
la professeure(laa profesakh)=teacher(feminin)
le or la(with vowel,rule of apostrophe)
eg> le ami (la aami) becomes l'ami (laami), literally means friend. And also though the friend is feminin in gender la amie(laa ami) becomes l'amie(laamie).
