Ask someone's name!!!!!

Generally in English we use the question "What is your name?" in order to know someone's name, however this could be possible in French too by saying "Quel est votre nom?(quel ay vothra nom)",the same meaning as it is in English. But instead of the expression "Quel est votre nom?", the French generally use "Vous vous applez comment?(vous vous zapele kamo)" which actually signifies "How do you call by yourself?". And the answer will be "Je m'appelle Sylvie(ja mapel Sylvie)", that means "I call by myself Hemant". Isn't that sound really interesting????
